A midsize company is seeking a Data Engineer to contribute to its data infrastructure. The role involves working independently while collaborating with an Analytics Director, Reporting Analyst, and internal system owners.
Role Overview / Mission
This role exists to achieve end-to-end data architecture and implementation. The Data Engineer will be responsible for both designing the data strategy, including data models, standards, and governance, and executing the practical implementation of data pipelines, staging, and monitoring. This position requires someone who can fulfill both Data Architect and Data Engineer responsibilities, with support from the wider team as the data function grows.
Key Responsibilities
* Architecting secure and scalable end-to-end data pipelines.
* Designing data models for dashboards, self-service analytics, and AI/ML workflows.
* Optimizing multi-tenant environments for performance, separation, and cloud scalability.
* Integrating APIs and platforms using Python, Airflow, Spark, SQL, GCP, or Azure.
* Troubleshooting and scripting data systems.
* Collaborating with DevOps and Engineering teams on CI/CD deployment.
* Ensuring data governance, metadata lineage, and architectural consistency.
* Mentoring offshore developers and conducting code reviews.
* Preparing clean, labeled, high-quality data for AI and LLM initiatives.
Required Qualifications / Skills
* 3–5+ years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or data architecture.
* Proficiency in Python, SQL/T-SQL, Airflow, Spark, and experience with GCP, Azure, or AWS.
* Experience with data modeling (3NF, Star/Snowflake schemas, Inmon/Kimball methodologies).
* Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Power BI, SSRS, Looker, or Tableau.
* Ability to design multi-tenant pipelines with a focus on performance and security.
* Familiarity with Snowflake, BigQuery, and event-driven architecture.
* Analytical, curious, and solution-oriented approach.
* Ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
* Clear communication skills across technical and business teams.
* Passion for future-proofing systems and enabling data-driven decisions.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
* Background in AI/ML pipeline readiness.
Location & Work Setup
This is a 100% remote independent contracting position located in the Philippines. The work schedule is full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST (Central Standard Time), which aligns with a night shift in the Philippines.
Compensation & Benefits
The role offers a competitive monthly fee in Philippine pesos, negotiable based on experience.
