CMF Design Freelancer

About the position

Research, analyze, and identify appropriate colors, materials, and finishes (CMF) in line with product strategy and design concepts, market trends, and insights provided by the design team. Establish CMF stories based on research into trending lifestyles, new materials, markets, and technologies to deliver emotional values and new perspectives to consumers. Participate in the product process from conception to production and collaborate with cross-functional teams including Industrial Design, Research and Strategy.

Responsibilities

Implement CMF concepts with tangible material samples, build contact with local and global manufacturing networks, and carry out prototyping to enable actual development. Work with material vendors to develop advanced material samples and standards for production. Collaborate alongside engineers, suppliers, and manufacturers to develop concepts and prototypes into material technologies suitable for mass manufacturing. Translate design concepts into executable CMF specifications in cooperation with the wider design team.

Requirements

Substantial work experience in a design and innovation environment, ideally as a CMF specialist. Knowledge of material trends and forecasting for hard and soft goods across multiple industries (interior design, home decor, consumer electronics). Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes and experience working with material vendors, engineers, suppliers, and manufacturers. Highly independent, self-motivated, with a strong work ethic and reliability in remote or on-site team settings.
