Freelance Product Designer for AI recruiting marketplace

About the position

Clera is an AI-powered talent agent connecting 55,000+ tech professionals with VC-backed startups through intelligent, personalized outreach via email, iMessage, and WhatsApp. As a Freelance Product Designer, you will shape the core product experience where AI drives matching and interaction — designing interfaces that make complex AI-driven talent matching legible, intuitive, and actionable for both candidates and hiring companies. You will work directly with Clera’s CTO and founding team in a remote, flexible, project-based structure. Work is scoped in chunks with async briefs and feedback via Slack and Figma, with workload varying from 15+ hours during intense sprints to lighter weeks — requiring strong self-management, proactive communication, and comfort with ambiguity. The team is small, sharp, and operates without design-by-committee, giving you real product ownership: your designs ship to tens of thousands of users and directly impact Clera’s growth.

Responsibilities

Design end-to-end user flows for candidates navigating AI-driven job matching, including onboarding, preference setting, and opportunity review; evolve the company-facing dashboard for startups to manage talent pipelines, review agent activity, and track engagement; define interaction patterns where the AI is the primary actor and the UI supports oversight rather than manual input; translate complex data such as match scores, engagement signals, and funnel metrics into clear, sophisticated interfaces; occasionally shape net-new product concepts from zero in a fast-moving, experimental environment. Collaborate asynchronously via Slack and Figma, produce forward-moving designs quickly, and ship work that impacts tens of thousands of users.

Requirements

Proven experience designing product UI/UX for software companies, preferably in B2B SaaS, marketplaces, or tools with meaningful complexity. Strong ability to think in flows and states (including empty states, error cases, loading, and edge cases). Fluency in Figma and design systems, able to work from rough briefs to produce designs quickly. Experience freelancing, managing your own time, asking clarifying questions early, and proactively flagging blockers. Comfort with asynchronous collaboration via Slack and Figma and thriving in a flexible, project-based rhythm without standing meetings.

Nice-to-haves

Experience designing for AI-mediated systems, familiarity with translating match scores and engagement signals into UI, prior work in B2B SaaS or marketplace UX at scale, and experience working directly with founding teams or CTOs in high-growth startups. Exposure to product work that shipped to large user bases and experience in fast-moving, experimental environments is a plus.

Benefits

Competitive project-based compensation (negotiated per scope of work)
Real product ownership with designs shipped to tens of thousands of users
Direct collaboration with a small founding team and CTO
Potential to grow into a larger role as Clera scales
